Driving Games
A driving or racing game is a popular type of video game that simulates real-life driving. It usually features a number of vehicles that range from sports cars, trucks, motorcycles, and karts. Some racing games feature sea vehicles like speedboats and jet skis while other versions use air vehicles such as airplanes and jets.
Driving games first gained popularity during the 70’s. Atari, a video game and arcade company, introduced a single racing game called Gran Trak, 10. It immediately became a hit among arcade enthusiasts.
By 1982, a large Japanese video game company called Namco, used the idea of circuit racing and applied it in a game called Pole Position. In this game, the player races against a time limit while simulating a real racing circuit course.
During the succeeding years, other companies adopted this game genre and created racing games such as Out Run, Grand Prix, Super Mario Kart, and Virtua Racing.
Today, driving games continue to remain popular. Modern race games however, utilized advanced technology to create impressive and life-like graphics and effects. Adults and kids alike enjoy exciting race games such as F1 Challenge, Need for Speed, Formula One, X Motor Racing, Daytona USA, Racer, and Sega Rally Championship.
